Making Jewelry to Fight Breast Cancer

Nashville, TN October 27, 2009—Batson Jewelry joined in the fight against breast cancer by “going pink” this month by re-creating some of their signature pieces out of Pink Ivory wood. On October 1, 2009, Batson Jewelry attended the 3rd annual Women’s Rock for the Cure. Batson Jewelry sold over $150 worth of jewelry with a portion of the proceeds going to Breast Cancer Awareness and the Greater Nashville affiliate of Susan G. Komen For the Cure. Batson Jewelry continued the theme by having a section of their etsy store (www.batsonjewelry.etsy.com) dedicated to Breast Cancer Awareness. For every item sold in this section 25% of the proceeds also went to these charities. Batson Jewelry wrapped up the month up by joining in the Making Strides Against Breast Cancer Walk on October 24, 2009. Through these efforts Batson Jewelry reached their goal for the amount donated.

The jewelry is cut from a variety of exotic woods then carefully hand-sanded and polished using Danish Oil, which protects and enhances the natural color and grain of wood. Absolutely no stain is used so each piece is very organic.

Cory Batson, along with his father and brother, founded Batson Guitars (www.batsonguitars.com) in 1998. Batson Guitars began steadily growing right away, and Cory’s wife, Christine, started immediately thinking of other ways to showcase the beauty of the woods used in the guitars her husband made. Journey to Etsy Success

This past Thursday, I participated in the Women's Rock for the Cure here in Nashville. It is a charity event that helps raise money for Breast Cancer Research and the Susan G. Komen foundation. I had a little table where I displayed my jewelry and donated a portion of the proceeds back to the charity. When someone purchased something, I put the purchase in a bag that had a coupon for 20% off in my Etsy store. This is just one more way I hope to drive business to my shop. We will see what happens!
