Batson Jewelry Hosts First Annual Open House

A portion of sales was donated to the Forrest Spence Fund and Susan G. Komen for the Cure

Nashville, TN – December 7, 2009 – Batson Jewelry hosted their first annual Open House on Saturday, November 14, 2009 from 9:00am to 12:00pm.

Guests were encouraged to browse the collection and ask questions regarding custom pieces to the jewelry designer, Christine Batson.

To help raise money for the Forrest Spence Fund (www.forrestspencefund.com), guests were able to purchase jewelry at discounted rates. The Forrest Spence Fund assists with the non-medical needs of critically or chronically ill children and their families throughout the Mid-South. Guests were also able to support Breast Cancer Awareness and Susan G. Komen for the Cure (www.komen.org) by purchasing pieces made from Pink Ivory wood.

“I recently found out about Batson Jewelry through a friend,” said Lori Cain, an attendee at the event and customer of Batson Jewelry. “I really enjoy everything I have bought from Batson Jewelry, and I am thrilled that they take the time to help out local and national charities. It makes me want to buy even more and refer more business to them!”

Batson Jewelry Goes Pink!

Making Jewelry to Fight Breast Cancer

Nashville, TN October 27, 2009—Batson Jewelry joined in the fight against breast cancer by “going pink” this month by re-creating some of their signature pieces out of Pink Ivory wood. On October 1, 2009, Batson Jewelry attended the 3rd annual Women’s Rock for the Cure. Batson Jewelry sold over $150 worth of jewelry with a portion of the proceeds going to Breast Cancer Awareness and the Greater Nashville affiliate of Susan G. Komen For the Cure. Batson Jewelry continued the theme by having a section of their etsy store (www.batsonjewelry.etsy.com) dedicated to Breast Cancer Awareness. For every item sold in this section 25% of the proceeds also went to these charities. Batson Jewelry wrapped up the month up by joining in the Making Strides Against Breast Cancer Walk on October 24, 2009. Through these efforts Batson Jewelry reached their goal for the amount donated.

The jewelry is cut from a variety of exotic woods then carefully hand-sanded and polished using Danish Oil, which protects and enhances the natural color and grain of wood. Absolutely no stain is used so each piece is very organic.

From your fingertips to your ears...think Batson!

Nashville, TN October 31, 2009 -- What originated as a business in custom acoustic guitars has now become a creative twist on handmade jewelry. Cory Batson, along with his father and brother, founded Batson Guitars (www.batsonguitars.com) in 1998. Batson Guitars began steadily growing right away, and Cory’s wife, Christine, started immediately thinking of other ways to showcase the beauty of the woods used in the guitars her husband made. She wanted to create something that was fashionable, yet affordable. With this in mind, Batson Jewelry (www.batsonjewelry.etsy.com) opened its doors in July 2009.

The jewelry is cut from a variety of exotic woods then carefully hand-sanded and polished using Danish Oil, which protects and enhances the natural color and grain of wood. Absolutely no stain is used so each piece is very organic.

Prices range from $9 to $25 per item and include earrings as well as pendants. Custom items are also available.

“I purchased the Hollow Square earrings made out of Zebra Wood in September, and I can not believe how many compliments I receive each time I wear them,” said Meredith Gooch, a repeat customer of Batson Jewelry. “I immediately went back to Batson Jewelry’s Web site to purchase a pendant for my sister’s upcoming birthday. She absolutely loved it!”

Journey to Etsy Success

This past Thursday, I participated in the Women's Rock for the Cure here in Nashville. It is a charity event that helps raise money for Breast Cancer Research and the Susan G. Komen foundation. I had a little table where I displayed my jewelry and donated a portion of the proceeds back to the charity. When someone purchased something, I put the purchase in a bag that had a coupon for 20% off in my Etsy store. This is just one more way I hope to drive business to my shop. We will see what happens! Finger crossed!

Journey to etsy success

I have been so busy making products that I have neglected my blog. I was suppose to be in a craft show last Saturday, but it got rained out and postponed to 10/10.

So where did I leave off, oh yes having friends and family purchase off Etsy. Ok after that, I begin entering Etsy chat rooms. I first tried the 5 minutes of Featured Seller rooms, but they did not work to well for me. However if you have a product that is $5 or less, FS rooms are a great way to make sales. I found that I was spending more money then making. :) Then I just started entering chat rooms. People post pictures of eachother's items and you chat about whatever. This has not increased my sales, but has increased my hearts. I also began reading the forums in Etsy and adding my 2 cents here or there. That is a great way to get your shop known. Take the time to do it. Use the tools that Etsy has to offer.

Journey to Etsy Success (the first days)

First thing I did was create a product that I am truly passionate about. You have to be passionate about what you do b/c it takes a lot of work and sometimes long hours. So my husband and I created a product and I wore some earrings to work. Immediately I was getting compliments and when I told them my husband and I made them, I was getting orders. Therefore, Step 2 is "Test your product with a small group". We then were busy at work trying to fill the orders I had made :) and we made extras b/c we were beginning to think we might have something here. I then posted pictures on Facebook for my family and friends to see. Again I immediately had peole emailing me asking to purchase them (without even knowing the price). Step 3 "Market to your friends and family" After that, I knew I was ready to open an Etsy store. I created an account and listed 12 items and then began listing 1 item daily so I would at least be on the first few pages a couple of minutes a day. Step 4 "list one item daily" Lastly, when my friends and family wanted to purchase something, I directed them to my Etsy store to start showing sales and feedback to let everyone know I was legate. Step 5 "ask friends and family to purchase from you on etsy" Now there are many more things I have done. I will tell you a few more tomorrow, so stay tuned!

Journey to Etsy Success (Part 1)

For a couple of weeks now, I have been trying to come up with what I would blog about. I live a normal life, exciting to me as I watch my kids grow, but probably pretty boring to everyone else. When it was recommended to me to start a blog to help promote by etsy store, I was terrified (ok maybe an exaggeration but you get the point). How was I going to write something that would intrigue people to follow me and visit my store and more importantly, not scare them off. Well, I hope that I have figured it out. I will blog about my daily activities that will take me to success with Etsy and hopefully, give you ideas to try. Also, if anyone does read this, please comment with your ideas. My blog will be dedicated to helping individuals run a successful Etsy Store. So here I go!!

the beginning

August 15, 2009

Today I start my blog. Please bare with me. I started an etsy store on July 25, 2009. I was going out on a limb b/c I had not heard much about etsy before then. Since, I have slowly learned and continue to learn the ins and outs of it all.

My etsy store consists of wooden jewelry that my husband and I make. He is a Luthier and builds custom acoustic guitars. He uses the left over wood to carve the earrings. It is my job then, to hand sand and polish each piece. Please check them out at www.batsonjewelry.etsy.com. This weekend we are offering free shipping.
